A stone and cement crucifix was constructed in 1977, in the form of a cross placed on a massive pedestal on which was written: “1877-1878, 1916-1918, 1941-1945. The brave fighters died on the battlefield for Romania’s independence, the unification of the nation and the liberation from the fascist yoke. The homeland, deeply grateful’‘. The inscription continues on the right side “In commemoration of the invincible bravery of the heroes, from the inhabitants of Nehoiu commune, with the efforts of Dobrescu Ioan, helped by eng. Dumitrescu Gheorghe”. Among those who fell was Gh. Dumitrescu, in the battles of Topraisar, 1916.

Today the monument includes a marble plaque with the following inscription: “Eternal gratitude to the Nehoian heroes who sacrificed themselves in: the War of Independence of 1877, the War for the Unification of the Nation 1916-1918, World War II 1939-1945, the Revolution of December 1989” . The “Book of Nehoiu’s heroes” launched on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Great Union was the contribution of Constanţa Doman, specialist of the City Library of Nehoiu and from which we can discover who were the heroes of Nehoiu: 770 dead on the front, 170 surviving veterans.

Among the surviving veterans, three nehoian heroes are alive after the Second World War, namely: Mr. Anghel Constantin (96 years old), president of the National Association of War Veterans from Buzau (ANVR), Mr. Ion Traian (99 years old) from Mlăjet and Mr. Staicu Victor (99 years old) from Chirleşti.
